An innovative spirit
The Lumid team, composed of industrial designers, engineers, and highly qualified craftsmen, has made a name for itself through its in-depth knowledge of traditional materials and building processes, not to mention its use of cutting-edge technological innovations. Lumid's particular expertise has allowed it to carry out a number of large-scale contracts such as the designing and building of lighting products and multifunctional objects (lighting/surveillance cameras, illuminated pedestals, etc.) for use in casinos, hotels, restaurants, teaching establishments, recreation centres, retail stores and more.
For Lumid, each project represents an opportunity to put its motto into action: "If you can imagine it, we can create it!" Recent projects include interactive multi-media features – video pendants, interactive dance floors and fountains. In keeping with this motto, Lumid spares no effort to seek out the best craftsmen and materials best suited to creating an original product in step with current standards, a product that will meet the needs of its clients and withstand the test of time.

Chain mail made of anodized aluminum, bronze, wood, aluminum laminate, resins, blown or thermoformed glass, stainless steel, prismatic lenses, wrought iron... Lumid boasts a long list of materials it uses to manufacture a product that meets with the highest standards of quality and originality. For Lumid, diversity is freedom.
Dominique Alary is a graduate of the School of Industrial Design at the University of Montreal. He also completed Administration and Computer Science studies at McGill University and UQAR. Beginning his career at Lumec, his passion for design and his desire to manage his own business led him to found Lumid in 1991. Since then, lighting features from the Alary Collection have been widely published in over 20 international magazines. Mr. Alary is actively involved in lighting education and has been tutoring graduate students at the University of Montreal since 1999. In addition to the awards he received at the S.I.D.I.M (Salon International du Design d’intérieur de Montreal) and at the I.I.D.E.X (Toronto), he obtained grants from the National Research Council Canada (NRC) and the Canada Economic Development for Quebec regions. Mr. Alary is a corporate member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.
